Now going back to 2023, if you were to ask me if I would go back down to a "shorter" lure rod over my collection of 9 ft + rods, I would have said no chance, however, while over in Jersey visiting family, I fished with Sam Daniels (the guy behind the excellent YouTube channel “Beneath The Waves Fishing”), who was using the Tenryu Injection SP 79MH.
He very kindly let me have a few casts with it, and from that first cast, I genuinely could not believe how good this rod felt. It properly blew me away with how it fished compared to what I was using at the time.
Let's be honest; after that, we all know what happened.
I have always been in regular contact with Mick and Denis at Mr Fish ever since my first visit to Jersey over 13 years ago.
I got to speaking to Denis about my very brief experience with that rod, and he talked me through his recommendations for what rod would suit my style of fishing. To which he gave two recommendations.
One was the Tenryu Injection SP 79MH 8-35g; the other was the Tenryu Injection SP82 MH 12-45g.
And after so much help from Denis, and him letting me get my hands on both rods (obviously I wanted both), I went with the 79MH. And honestly… I could not be happier. I have really given this rod some abuse in terms of fishing in rough conditions in all sorts of situations. I also used it fishing creature baits in an estuary, and it has been delightful to use.
Now I hate the term (all-rounder) for a lure rod, but for me and my style of fishing, this Tenryu Injection SP 79MH really is stunning to use.
I fish all sorts of ground ranging from shallow reefs with loads of tide all the way to deep water marks and everything in between, and I have put every lure I own on this rod.
It's fantastic on soft plastics like the Westin Sandy Andy from 12g 32g. Super sensitive and a lovely action to the tip to help you be as delicate as you need to be.
Equally brilliant on surface lures. All the way up to the 30g ones, I have used blasting them out... Super controlled, and it works them without a fuss to get that action into the lure.
It's also very, very capable of sending out metals at range and has no problem casting distance at all. The rod is super powerful where it matters, and it won't let you down.
I can't stress enough that if you are in the market for a new rod, please speak to Mick and Denis at Mr. Fish, and they will give you honest and proper advice.
My experience with them has always been nothing short of perfect over the years, they are always willing to chat and help you out.
For me this Injection 79MH is really in a class of its own. I cannot recommend it enough.
